Form and Size:
The stems of this type of aster are usually leafy and 8 – 15 inches in height, with round flowers, 2 – 4 inches in diameter, at the top. Blooms have a coarse texture and a lightly colored center. Stems have either 1 or 2 blooms each.

Remove any leaves at the bottom of the stem, cut under water and place in fresh water with flower food.
History and Usage:
A member of the Compositae (aster) family, it originated in China. Aster is the Latin word for star. This is in reference to the star like shape of the flower. Its botanical name, Callistephus chinensis, means “beautiful Chinese crown” in Greek.
Points of Interest:
Chinese aster has been called “the life of the garden party.” Its relatives include the sunflower, daisy, gerbera daisy and the chrysanthemum.
