Form and Size:
The stems of kangaroo-paw are up to 3 feet long. At the stem ends, there are small flowers that are about 3 inches wide. They are uniquely shaped with toe or claw-like parts sticking up that make it resemble an animal’s paw. The flowers also have a fuzzy covering.

History and Usage:
A member of the Haemodoraceae (bloodwort) family, kangaroo-paw originated in Australia. Its botanical name, anigozanthos, comes from the word “anoigo” which is Greek for to open and “anthos” which is Greek for flower. This is in reference to the widely open flowers. Kangaroo-paw is a nice addition to any arrangement, whether traditional or contemporary.
Points of Interest:
Relatives of kangaroo-paw include conostylis, lachnanthes and xiphidium. Kangaroo-paw is the floral emblem of western Australia.
