Form and Size:
The stems of pincushion are of various lengths and have leathery foliage. Its spherical flowers heads are made up of many needle-like petals that protrude out from the center like pins in a pincushion.

Remove any leaves at the bottom of the stem, cut under water and place in fresh water with flower food.
History and Usage:
A member of the Proteaceae (protea) family, pincushion originated in South Africa. Pincushion is beautiful in all arrangements, including dried arrangements. Its unique look makes it the perfect addition to any contemporary arrangement.
Points of Interest:
Relatives of pincushion include grevillea, leucodendron, banksias and macadamia nut. Pincushion is said to mean “risqué” in the language of flowers. When put in an arrangement it takes over and becomes the focal point.
