History and Usage:
A member of the Compositae (aster) family, it originated in the eastern United States. It can be found in Maine, Georgia and even Texas. Aster is the Latin word for star. This is in reference to the star-like shape of the flower. Ericoides means heath. This refers to the similar growing habits of the flower to a heath. Monte casino aster is often used in bouquets as a filler flower.
