Common Name(s): Gooseneck Loosestrife

Form and Size: The leafy stems of lisianthus are 18 – 24 inches long. At the stem ends there are dense clusters of small, star-shaped flowers.
Vase Life: up to 7 days
Availability: summer, but some varieties can be found year-round
Care Instructions: Remove any leaves from the bottom of the stem, cut under water and place in fresh water with flower food. This flower should be treated with an anti-ethylene product.
History and Usage: A member of the Primulaceae (primrose) family, lysimachia originated in China and Japan. Its botanical and popular name, lysimachia, is named after King Lysimachos of Thrace (circa 360 – 281 BC) because he supposedly pacified a bull with a stem of this flower.
Points of Interest: Relatives of lysimachia include cyclamen and shooting star.
